Curator’s Choice:
Marianne Mispelaëre
Galerie Springer Berlin presents a new exhibition concept. Heide and Robert Springer have invited 14 photography curators from Germany and Switzerland to present a work or a small group of works. The decision was completely free for each individual. There was no topic specification. Rather, it should be personally favoured works, thrillingly felt random encounters or carefully selected from one’s own professional work – regardless of the content or commercial aspects of the gallery. The result is surprising and fascinating at the same time. The selection covers a wide range of different topics, styles, times or genres. It includes classic vintage photographs from the early 1950s as well as contemporary photography; world-class artists as well as photographers who have barely been seen in exhibitions so far. The free choice of the curators, the collegial encounter in a common project, as well as the interaction of the different positions in the gallery rooms, are the peculiarity of this exhibition which reveals surprising or conclusive themes, connections, contexts or opposites.
